Up to 3,000 competitors from more than 25 countries are expected to participate at the 2018 staging of the Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K, which will be held on Sunday, December 2 in Negril, Westmoreland.

The event was launched on Wednesday, October 17 at Digicel’s headquarters in downtown Kingston.

The races will begin and end at Long Bay Beach Park in the resort town. Start time is 5:15 a.m.

The race date falls on a Sunday for the first time and Race Director, Alfred ‘Franno’ Francis said the change is expected to lure more competitors to the event.

Francis said it was too much of a hassle for competitors to head to Negril after leaving work on the Friday to compete the following day.

The 2017 marathon had over 2,200 participants from 41 countries, 1,200 of the participants were from overseas.

Reggae Marathon, considered to be among the top-10 marathons worldwide, is organised by the Jamdammers Running Club of Kingston.

Registration starts on Friday, November 30 and ends on Saturday, December 1.
